Alexandre Clarys, painter, illustrator and poster artist was born in Brussels, Belgium and ultimately became known as a realist painter of canine breeds and equestrian sporting scenes. His dog portraits depict the highest physical standards and characteristics for a variety of pedigreed dogs, often showcasing specific champions. In addition, the artist painted pastoral and equestrian scenes, which include full-length profile portraits of specific horses, as well as rural and urban depictions featuring groups of horses. In many of his canine and equestrian works, the titles of the works reveal the name of the champion subjects. There are also known examples of high-drama equestrian scenes depicting motion.
