Biography   Alice Cooper

Sculptor Alice Cooper was born on April 8, 1875 in Glenwood, Iowa and was raised in Denver, Colorado. She first studied under Preston Powers and later studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Cooper was an assistant instructor at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1900-1901. She also studied at the Art Students League from 1899-1900.

In 1904 Cooper won a competition to create a life-size bronze statue of Sacajawea for the Lewis and Clark Exposition in Portland, Oregon. The very next year she received great acclaim for her statue "In Honor of Greatness" depicting a Native American Woman and her papoose.

In 1905 Cooper married Nathan M. Hubbard and moved to Des Moines, Iowa. She continued her art while raising thre   ...  Displaying 750 of 1216 characters.
