Born in Austro-Hungary in 1838. Kroupa worked in England prior to moving to Canada in 1872. He traveled extensively and authored the book An Artist's Tour/Gleanings and Impressions of Travels in North and Central America and the Sandwich Islands. His California subjects include the Sierra Nevada, Yosemite Valley, Calaveras Grove, a Chinese joss house, opium den, and Seal Rocks in San Francisco.
