Boris Kryloff was born in Moscow in 1891 and was most active in France during the early-mid half of the 20th century. Before moving to Paris, he studied painting in Russia under the guidance of Michaelowsky and Grinkovitch. His works often portray genre scenes from Russian peasant life, replete with red-nosed accordion players and scarfed babushkas, though he did occasionally delve into the fantastical theatrics of Russian folklore.
