The following information was submitted by Lorraine Passero, who wrote: "Clara Mason Fox was my husband's great-great aunt. I have done extensive research on her life."
Clara and her family moved to Illinois when she was seven. The Mason family settled in Silverado Canyon in Orange County, California in 1887. Living in Silverado Canyon, she spent time during the summer in Laguna Beach, where she sketched scenes of the ocean and bathers. Some of her poetry was written about Laguna Beach.
Clara Mason studied art at Cooper Union in New York City from 1896 to 1897. She lived on Perry Street while attending classes.
Her book of poetry entitled In Pleasant Places was published in 1924.
