Cornelius Anton Bartels became the Artist in Residence at Central College in 1950 or '51. I was his private student at that time. He was probably one of the last artists from "the school of the Hague". Those artists studied drawing mostly.
I quite enjoyed being the only private student of C. A. Bartels. His emphasis was on learning drawing skills, and the process of copperplate etchings.
He and his wife Minka, who was a classical pianist, were friends with my uncle Robert Lautenbach who was a local architect and with his wife, who was my aunt Martha Gosselink Lautenbach. I think that they were responsible for his
