Edna Lee Rogerson was born on October 15, 1887, (some data indicates 1889) in Evanston, Illinois, the daughter of Aspden and Leanna (Thomas) Rogerson. Her father, a master printer, operated Rogerson Press in Chicago, which specialized in the printing of books and manuscripts. Raised and educated in Evanston, she continued her studies at the Chicago Art Institute, the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, where she was awarded a scholarship, and The Commercial Arts School (now the Illinois Institute of Art), Chicago. On October 4, 1917, in a ceremony conducted at her parents’ home, she married David Maurice Cook, an accountant employed at Rogerson Press.
