Biography Eugene Benson
Eugen Benson began his artistic training at the National Academy of Design in 1856. In order to support himself, the young artist also worked for various New York newspapers as an art critic, quickly becoming an important critic of his time.
He painted sensitive and romantic images, preferring oriental and poetic motifs in his later works. His poetical tract published in 1891 offers an atmospheric portrayal of a widely talented artist who, although engendering admiration, always remained misunderstood and a searcher.
