Biography Frederic William Browne
Frederic Browne was born in Belfast, Ireland, and raised in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received art training at the
Pennsylvania School of Industrial Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the
Fine Arts and at Academies Julian, Colarossi and de la Grande Chaumiere
in Paris, France.
Brown joined the faculty at Rice Institute in 1925 as an instructor in
architectural drawing and painting. In 1935, he moved from Rice to the
art department at the University of Houston, where he taught until
1948. Browne also served concurrently as an instructor at the Museum
School, Museum of Fine Arts Houston from 1927 to 1940.
