Biography George Lebrecht
Georg Lebrecht studied under Robert Haug at the art academy in Stuttgart
and was then mainly active in Berlin. He soon specialized in animal
painting, but his realistic depictions of horses were his most
successful subjects. Besides, Lebrecht also painted landscapes, as well
as war and hunting scenes.
Under the dictatorship of the NSDAP Lebrecht
headed the department of painting, graphic art and sculpture of the
‘Reichskammer der Bildenden Künste’ in Berlin. Between 1937 and 1943 he
was represented at the Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung held at the Haus
der Kunst in Munich. (cbo)
