Huguette Clark (1906-2011)
An heiress, philanthropist, and artist, Clark is also known for the reclusive last 20 years of her life, when she lived in a hospital, while her mansions were left empty. Upon her death, she left a fortune of over $300 million, much of which was left to charities, especially art institutions, as well as to some distant relatives, following a long feud over her estate.
Born in Paris, France, she was the daughter of U.S. Senator William A. Clark, a businessman who was involved with copper mining and railroads, and his second wife, Anna Eugenia La Chapelle (1878-1963).
