Biography James Archer
In Boston from 1835 to 1849, and in Cincinnati from 1850 to 1851 and 1856 to 1857, James Archer is thought to have been an engraver in London for publishers in 1832.
In Boston, he was the engraver of the majority of the large plates published in 1884 illustrating Hinton's History and Topography of the United States. These views were of American scenery and were generally drawn by American artists. Several of them were signed J. Archer, Sc.Boston. Nothing more seems to be known about him except it was known that an English engraver with this name was engraving landscape plates in London in 1832.
Also in 1855, a James Archer was engraving book and magazine illustrations for C.A. Jewett & Company of Cincinna
