Biography Jerzy Nowosielski
Jerzy Nowosielski started his studies in 1940 at the Cracow's Kunstgewerbeschule. In 1942 spent nearly one year in the John „the Baptist" Monastery (Lwów) studying history of Orthodox Church art (especially holy icons art). After the end of WW2 he continued his studies in Cracow's Academy under Professor Eugeniusz Eibisch.
At the 1st New Art Exhibition in Cracow (1948/49), Nowosielski presented works based on geometric abstraction. In the socrealism period, he focused on church decorations, staying away from communist exhibition halls. In 1955 he held his first solo exhibition, and in 1956 he took part in the 28th Venice Biennale.
