Biography John Arana
As a young man John Arana hoped to be a professional racer. His dreams were put on hold when he was drafted to the United States Air Force. It was while he was in the Air Force that his artistic talent was discovered and he decided to pursue a career in art.
When his military service ended Arana studied painting and drawing at The Art Students League in New York. He studied with William Draper, Everett Raymond Kinstler, David A. Leffel, and Burton Silverman.
In the 1970s Arana moved to Provincetown, Massachusetts where he trained with colorist Henry Hensche and began his professional career painting portraits.
