Biography John Fisher
John Fisher, also known as Johannes Fischer, was a clockmaker, cabinet
maker and tinsmith, in addition to painter and sculptor. Fisher
was born in Pfessing, Swabia, Germany and came to America with his
parents in 1749. His parents died soon after they boarded ship.
After settling in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, John Fisher moved to York, Pennsylvania in 1756.
Many of Fisher's tall case clocks still exist, fetching tens of
thousands of dollars at auction. The finest of these clocks is a
35-day clock with a number of astronomical features owned by Yale
