Biography Joris Minne
Born in Ostend, Joris Minne is a Belgian sculptor, draftsman, graphic artist and illustrator. After a training at the Academy of Berchem, he began as an impressionist watercolorist and moved insensibly towards expressionism.
Following his meeting with Roger Avermaete, he joins the creation of the magazine "Lumière" published for the first time in Antwerp in 1919.
Frans Masereel, Jan Cantré, Jozef Cantré, Henri Van Straten and Joris Minne were the five main artists who illustrated the texts. They became known as "The Five". The "Five" had a leading role in popularizing the art of woodcutting and in the introduction of Expressionism in early twentieth century Belgium.
In 1932, Minne began sculpture (mainly wood) and gained wide recognition
