Lawrence Johnson (1908-1995)

Lawrence Johnson worked as an illustrator for Rockford Illustrating Co. directly out of high school until 1930. He then moved to Chicago to study at the School of the Art Institute under Oberteuffer and Reynolds while working for the Chicago Tribune art department part time.  In 1936 Lawrence attended the Art Students League of New York to study under Brackman and Kuniyoshi who had a strong influence on his figural work.  He supported his education as a Madison Avenue illustrator.  His landscapes were painted from

the 1920's to the 1980's from his travels in New England, the Southwest, and his native Illinois. Colleagues include Rockford artists Edward Carlson and William Hall   ...  Displaying 750 of 884 characters.
