Born in Tehran January 1937.
After having completing her elementary education in Tehran, she attended Cheltenham Ladies College. She obtained a degree from the Slade School of Fine Arts in London.
Upon returning to Tehran during the 1960's she taught sculptor at the Faculty of Fine Arts.
Leyly Matine-Daftary started her artistic career in the 1960's, an era of great innovation in the arts on an international scale. She was part of the first generation of Iranian women artists, she was also part of a new generation of artists in Iran breaking with traditional techniques.
Over the years she had many exhibitions both in Iran and abroad.
