A prominent western Canadian painter and educator, Chin Shek Lam (aka: Chin-Shek Lam; aka: Chien-Shih Lin; aka; Lin Chien-Shih) was best known for his gouache* and ink paintings of calligraphy, mandalas*, the landscape, and pure abstraction* – color, shape, texture and line. His styles included Calligraphy*, Color Field Painting*, Geometric Abstraction* and Modernism*. (2)
His works were the subject of solo exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton (1975); the University of Lethbridge Art Gallery, Lethbridge, Alberta (1978); the Glenbow Museum, Calgary, Alberta (1979); and the Triangle Gallery of Visual Arts, Calgary, Alberta (2001).
