Biography Lorenzo Romero Arciaga
Lorenzo Romero Arciaga was born in 1905, in Havana, where he still resides. He studied painting and sculpture at the Academy of San Alejandro in Havana, abandoning it in the late 1920s for the informal teachings and primitivism of Víctor Manuel. He participated in most of the major exhibitions of the 1930s, which helped establish the modernist movement in Cuban art. From 1934 to around 1960, he acted as curator and conservator for the Directory of Culture, helping to organize eight national salons of art (1935-59) and taking care of their purchase awards. His paintings are mostly in private and public collections in Cuba, including that of the National Museum in Havana.
