Biography Lucien Marchais
Lucien Marchais, a pupil of the famous Parisian painter Luigi Loir,
exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon beginning in 1892. His
best-known Salon paintings depict landscapes throughout the French
countryside: near Paris, as in the present work as well as his 1892 and
1893 Salon submissions, Paris et le bois de Boulogne, vue prise du
Mont-Valerien (no. 1150) and La Seine a Asniere (no. 1193).
He also painted near Lyon, La Frette, paysage (Salon of 1895, no. 1273)
and around Tours, De Saint-Pierre a Portejoie, -aout (Salon of 1894,
