Biography   Lucien Marchais

Lucien Marchais, a pupil of the famous Parisian painter Luigi Loir, exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon beginning in 1892.  His best-known Salon paintings depict landscapes throughout the French countryside: near Paris, as in the present work as well as his 1892 and 1893 Salon submissions, Paris et le bois de Boulogne, vue prise du Mont-Valerien (no. 1150) and La Seine a Asniere (no. 1193).

He also painted near Lyon, La Frette, paysage (Salon of 1895, no. 1273) and around Tours, De Saint-Pierre a Portejoie, -aout (Salon of 1894, no. 1248).

Many of Marchais' landscapes exhibit the artist's penchant for water scenes.  His strong grasp of plein air technique is clearly illustrated in Canotiers s   ...  Displaying 750 of 1020 characters.
