Born in NYC on Feb. 22, 1895, the daughter of architect Henri Fouchaux and painter Mary Emma Orr. Madeleine settled in Pasadena in 1910 and was educated at Pasadena High School, USC College of Fine Arts under Guy Rose and William L. Judson, and Occidental College. She married artist Sigurd Russell in 1920 and continued her art career. She then studied at Otis Art Institute in 1923. She divorced Sigurd Russell in 1927. In 1933 her studio burned, taking with it most of her early works, which were portraits, still lifes, and landscapes. Seven years later she married George Simmons and continued living in Pasadena until her death on May 17, 1969.
