Biography   Mary Rogers

British ceramist Mary Rogers worked in graphic design and calligraphy for years before establishing her first ceramics workshop in Leicestershire, England. Born in 1929 in Derbyshire, she studied at the Watford School or Art and St. Martin’s School of Art from 1945 to 1949. Her early work consisted of heavy, hand-coiled stoneware pots and in the 1960s her techniques shifted to translucent, hand pinched porcelain bowls. In the 1970s she began exhibiting internationally. Rogers’s delicate work is inspired by nature representative of flowers, leaves, shells and organisms native to a forest or sea floor.
