Nicky Imber was a Jewish artist and sculptor. Imber had a interesting
life, he was born in Vienna, and in 1938 deported to Dachau, from which
he escaped and headed to Haifa only to be detained by the British as an
Austrian citizen, and sent to a detention camp in Mauritius. In 1943 he
negotiated his release, joined the British Army and worked for secret
After the war he settled down as an artist, traveled
widely, and after a spell in South America he came to New York in 1971
and set up a studio, where he worked on oil portraits and on a number of
bronze busts of famous people. He returned to Venezuela in 1976, and
later settled in Israel.
