Born in Franklin, TN in 1855. Lotz settled in San Jose in 1869 and was active there in the 1870s as a colorist for a photography studio. By 1880 he had established such a studio in San Francisco and was active there until his studio was destroyed in the earthquake of 1906. He died in New York on Sept. 20, 1913. Exh: Calif.
