Biography Peggy Ives
The first artisan to develop weaving talents into a successful year-round arts related business, Peggy Ives worked with metallic threads, yarns of wool, mohair and camel hair.
She established a business in Ogunquit, Maine in 1925, and reached her greatest success between 1949 and 1954 when she opened a weaving center at the corner of Pine Hill Road North and Shore Road. She also was hired as a consultant to Reynolds Metals on the product Lurex, a metallic material used in clothing.
Her trademark was her great sense of color, derived from mingled hues, and Lord and Taylor department store chain "featured her yard goods and ready-to-wear clothes in its Fifth Avenue store windows for many years."
