Biography   Phebe Jane Blackman


Phebe Jane Blackman, a painter of miniatures, was married to Carlos Glidden at Dayton, Ohio on July 13, 1854. She was the daughter of Niram (Hiram?) Seabury Blackman of Brookfield, Connecticut where she was born on February 23, 1829. She died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 25,1894.

Phebe was a miniature artist, educated at Springler Institute, and a graduate of the New York Academy of Design. Her husband was co-founder of Sholes & Glidden Typewriter Company, sold to E.Remington & Sons in 1874.
