Needham Ray Clay (1893-1981)
Born April 5, 1893 in Owosso, Michigan, Ray Clay was one of three children born to Edgar and Carrie Needham. While living and end employed as an Auto Trimmer for Westcott Motor Car Company in Springfield, Ohio, he was to marry Mary Hoos in 1916 before settling in Richmond, Indiana.
Artistically, he studied at Earlham College in Richmond Indiana, under John M. King; at the Dayton Art Institute; and with Edward Dufner, a New York artist who taught at the Art Colony of Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Other instructors were George H. Baker and Lawrence McConaha.
