Known for his stop-motion animation, something far ahead of his time, Ray Harryhausen developed a love for this after he first saw Willis O'Brien's work on "King Kong." His parents, very supportive of his interest and helped him purchase a 16 mm camera and set up a studio for him in their garage. His father made armatures for him, and his mother helped with fabric work, all based on Harryhausen's designs.
During World War II, he worked for Frank Capra producing animation and training films, and at the end of the war he was offered a job by Willis O'Brien, his idol, and worked on "Mighty Joe Young".
