Biography Rebecca Couch
Artist Rebecca Couch was born 19 June 1788 in Redding, Fairfield Co. CT, the eldest child and only daughter of Thomas Nash Couch and his wife Abigail (Stebbins) Couch. She married on 17 October 1794 to James C. Denison and they resided in his hometown Lansingburgh, Rensselaer Co. NY through the 1820s. They were the parents of seven children. They later removed to Redding, CT where she died on 4 September 1863, and is interred with her husband in Redding Ridge Cemetery. She probably received some instruction in watercolor technique in school. Two of her works, both watercolor and ink on wove paper, are illustrated in American Folk Paintings: "View of Litchfield" and "Connecticut House."
