Biography Romolo Roberti
Romolo Roberti was born in Montelanico Italy in 1896. While he was a teenager, he traveled to the United States with his father on a business trip to New York. When the time came to return to Italy, Romolo decided to stay in America on his own, that he might pursue his dream of becoming an artist.
Roberti settled in Ithaca New York in 1913, and worked as a maintenance man on the campus of Cornell University. While not a student at the university, Roberti received his first art training from one of Cornell's architecture professors: Christian Midjo. The teaching and encouragement given by Midjo would help propel Roberti on to a lifetime of painting.
