This is a statement about the artist Ted Roocroft, submitted by Neil Moores in May 2019.
Ted was teaching on the BA Fine Art course at Manchester Polytechnic when I was a student on the course from 1973 to 1976. I have fond, vivid memories of Ted, who was, for a time my personal course tutor. He lived near to Goostrey, Cheshire where he had farmed. As is characteristic of his work, he was expert in the study of animals e.g. pigs and sheep.
Cheshire has many small lakes, meres and flashes and he once told me he enjoyed floating in the middle of one of these near his home during hot summer weather. His opening line, as a tutor was always (or most often) "Are you winning lad
