Biography Urs Eggenschwyler
Urs Eggenschwyler was born in Subingen in 1849.
The sculptor and painter U. Eggenschwyler had a great love for lions.
He created numerous life-size sculptures for public buildings, including the four lions of the old bridge Stauffacher in Zurich, the lion in the boat harbor Enge, and those for the Kirchhoferhaus in St. Gallen. He also created the bears for the Federal House.
Urs also built artificial rocks at home and abroad for parks and zoological gardens.
For health reasons, he did not to study his favorites in the wilderness. He taught in 1891 in Zurich-Seebach, a private zoo.
Urs Eggenschwyler passed away in 1923 in Zurich.
