Victorio “Vic” C. Rivera (1925-2015)
Born in 1925 in the Philippines, already as a child Rivera demonstrated a natural artistic talent. His family’s relative impoverishment on a farm outside Manila led him to invent his own paints out of charcoal from the wood stove and pigments he derived from minerals, flowers, fruit, and melted crayons.
His first experience with artists occurred when students from the School of Fine Arts in Manila came to the countryside near his family’s farm to paint en plein air.
