Walter Pierce Clay was born in Texas on Nov. 26, 1878. Clay was a resident of Los Angeles by 1907 and served as dean of the faculty of Clay School of Art (renamed California Art Institute in 1925). He remained in Los Angeles until his demise on June 24, 1959.
