The following is from Kent Sumner:

Wendell H. Black was born in Moline, Illinois, but was raised mostly in Davenport, Iowa. He began his college education in art 1938 at the
University of Iowa. When he was nearing the completion of his BFA degree,
World War II interrupted his schooling. Throughout the War, Black work as
General Patton's personal cartographer. Upon returning from the War, he
finished his BFA entered the graduate print making program at University of
Iowa.

It was 1946 and a new professor, Mauricio Lanansky, headed the program. Black was one of his first six students. He was married to Elaine Carson in Iowa City in 1948. After receiving his MFA in 1948, he took a teaching position and University   ...  Displaying 750 of 958 characters.
