Maud Maple Miles

Maud Maple Miles was active/lived in Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, Iowa.  Maud Miles is known for western scene painting, bas relief sculpture, teaching, color theorist.

Biography   Maud Maple Miles

Born in Iowa with the name of Zula Maud Maple Miles, she became a painter and sculptor of western scenes as well as an educator, inventor, writer, and lecturer.

She moved with her family to Chicago in about 1880 and during childhood had ill health, so most of her education was private until she was able to attend West Division High School.  Her art talent became obvious, and she then enrolled in the Chicago Art Institute. 

In 1893, she participated in the World's Columbian Exposition.  The next year, she married David Miles, a civil engineer, and they moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she had an eighteen-year teaching career at the Manual Training High School.  She also raised a daughter alone followin   ...  Displaying 750 of 2184 characters.
