Frances-Anne Johnston RCA, OSA (1910 - 1987)

A prominent Canadian painter, Frances-Anne Johnston (aka: Frances-Anne Arbuckle) was born in Toronto, Ontario and died in Toronto, where, with the exception of 17 years in Montreal (1941 - 1958), she had lived for much of her life. Her works are in several museums including the National Gallery of Canada. She belonged to a family of famous and influential artists: her father was Franz Johnston an original member of the Group of Seven* and a Principal of the Ontario College of Art*; her brother was Paul Rodrik a painter, war artist and philanthropist; and her husband (m.1934) was Franklin Arbuckle a President of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts*.
