Leandro Izaguirre entered the Academy of San Carlos in 1884, where he had as teachers Pina and Rebull, who determined the pictorial guide that would follow in the future. Participated in the competitions summoned in 1889 and 1891, in the latter he was awarded the first prize. Later, he traveled to various countries in Europe and on his return succeeded Fabrés as master of drawing at the San Carlos Academy. Source consulted: TOVAR DE TERESA, Guillermo. Izaguirre was an outstanding student and later also professor of the Academy of San Carlos. It was part of the last academic effort to represent with naturalism the painting of history, as can be seen in his masterpiece The Suicide of Cuauhtémoc (1892). Reference: Fernández, Justino.
