Philip Ellis Foster has studied Japanese calligraphy with Tsuyoshi Takemori since 2008 and explored studio art in 2013 and 2014 under Maurizio Pellegrin at the National Academy of Design School of Fine Art, New York City. He has recently started making abstract work with ink on paper, canvas, and cardboard, and also making drawing of dance performances.
His traditional and imaginary calligraphic works were shown at the New York Shodo Society* from 2010-2015 and the World Calligraphy Biennale in South Korea in 2013.
His abstract works have been exhibited at the National Academy in 2013 and 2014 and in a solo exhibition at the Gruss Center of Visual Arts, Lawrenceville, New Jersey in 2015.
