Kim (03/17/2015)
I just bought a Grandma Moses picture at a thrift store. The frame is pretty dated and has a brass plate in the front that states the title 'Early Americana' Grandma Moses. I don't believe it is an original, but I'm wondering if it has any value. I bought because I liked it and after browsing the Internet, it got me wondering about its orgin. Thanks.

A. Robertson-Question still....
Cindy Meyer (05/24/2009)
I have a drawing/painting (pastel) on what looks like butcher paper signed by artist A. Robertson. It is a still life...not at all in Grandma Moses' style. However, it is of a desk setting with letters to an A. Robertson at a college in Virginia. Did G. Moses ever try her hand in a different style other than what she is famous for? If anyone has any thoughts...please share. Thank you.

It's Haying Time
Judy (06/02/2008)
I have a framed picture and I am trying to figure out if it is a Grandma Moses print. I would have to remove it from the frame to expose a signature in the bottom right. There is an opening in the bottom middle of the mat which says: It's haying Time by Grandma Moses, Arthur Jaffe N.Y. Imp. This print hung on the wall of a race track where my mother worked. When they remodeled the clubhouse they gave my mother the picture. I have found reference to "Haying Time", by Grandma Moses, but I can't find a picture to compare with mine. Does anyone know anything about this print?

Possible Grandma Moses Print? Help
Carrie (05/25/2008)
I have a print signed/printed MOSES in the lower right corner. A scene is a brown barn, white house with people working with farm tools. A horse drawn wagon with hay, a brown dog, a black horse behind a white fence. It appears to be a dark cloud in the upper left corner of the picture, kids at play and one man pointing toward the dark clouds. Can any one help me identify the artist? It has a folk art look. Maybe Grandma Moses?

Grandma Moses painting
Bonnie Turbeville (04/29/2008)
I too have a painting with the stamp on the back "Grandma Moses Property Inc. with the New City address below. My mother purchased it in 1952 in Chicago. The front is signed Moses with a copyright symbol below. My first thought was that it is a multicolored screenprint, but there are no pencil notes to indicate if it a limited edition or just a print. It is painted or printed on heavy stock paper, about 24" x 22". I, now think it is a tempera painting. Can someone help me with this?

Grandma Moses "Hunting fo Water"
ruth foster (04/22/2007)
At a recent clearing sale we purchased a bundle of artwork, this particular piece was amongst them. It looks like it has been done in water color ona brownish paper. On the back is a newspaper clipping that says"Grandma Moses who was 95 last september recently presented this painting to th National Art Gallery of New South Wales Australia, "Hunting for Water" was presented to the gallery by Dr. Otto Kallir who acts as a representative for Grandma Moses on the condition that the Gallery donated 150pounds to an Australian childrens charity. The money was given to the Sydney Legacy War Orphans Fund. There is no date on the newspaper clipping, it would definitely be beforem 1964 when we changed to decimal currency. Iwould like to know more about the painting and it's approximate value for insurance purposes. "

First Lady Laura Bush and Mrs. Cheney visit Moses Exhibit
Mary Webb (04/06/2001)
From the Chicago Tribune by MICHAEL KILIAN on April 5, 2001 WASHINGTON -- Laura Bush made her first official visit as first lady to an art museum last week, and you will doubtless not be overwhelmed with amazement to learn that her chosen venue for this honor was not the kinky Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh or the raffish Brooklyn Museum of Art.Instead, with lights flashing, sirens warbling and Second Lady Lynne Cheney in tow, Mrs. Bush motorcaded three entire blocks from the White House to Washington's National Museum of Women in the Arts for a private tour of a just-opened exhibition of 87 of the most important paintings by Anna Mary Robertson Moses (1860-1961), better known by millions of (older) Americans as Grandma Moses. (The exhibition is sponsored, don't you know, by the AARP.)You cannot get any cozier than this, unless it's illustrations of "The Three Little Kittens."And a first lady could not be happier with art. As a few of us newsies tagged along, she went from painting to painting, observing, "It's great," "It's wonderful," "I like the winter scenes," "I like the trees," "It's so intense," and finally, at the end, "These are just great."From critic to docentMrs. Cheney, a harshly right-wing critic of much of America's artistic and creative product when she was chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities in the last Bush administration, probably disappointed some in the Greenwich Village and SoHo set by not actually attacking the Moses paintings just because they were paintings.Instead, she gushed as much as if not more than Mrs. Bush over Grandma Moses' work, which critics in the 1950s used to refer to as "primitives."Mrs. Cheney carried on like a veritable docent, pointing out rainbows and sheep and other complexities of the Moses oeuvre and offering critical comment like "so cheerful," "joyous," "it's great" and "it looks like the road to heaven."
